Wildlife holidays are great if there are a lot of different creatures to view. One of the top destinations people choose when they go on an adventurous wildlife holiday are the Galapagos Islands. What makes the Galapagos Islands so special is that the animals found there are extremely unique.
It often passes people by that wildlife holidays are also active holidays. If you like walking holidays the Galapagos Islands have some great trails and places to go. There are lots of other activities you can take part in if you are feeling a little more adventurous than most. The additional activities include water sports like snorkelling and kayaking as well as activities like horse riding.
The Galapagos Islands are part of Ecuador and are situated 525 miles of the mainland. A UNESCO world heritage site you will be able to see some amazing species of animals residing on the island. 23,000 people live on the Galapagos Islands speaking the native language Spanish.

There are fourteen species of galapagos tortoises but unfortunately 3 of these are now extinct. You will now find that some of these species are now extinct.
The Pacific Green Turtle is the only sea turtle that has its home on the Galapagos Islands. If you go in the first part of the year you will be able to find these turtles laying their eggs on the beach.
The Galapagos Islands also contains lot of species of lizards one of which can be found living in the ocean. The others can be found on land eating cactus plants.
You may think it unusual to find penguins on a place such as the Galapagos Islands but they are there. The penguins of the Galapagos Islands are the only penguins to be found near the equator line.
