Log Cabin Holidays

Holiday preferences vary from one individual to another or from one family to another. Whilst most of the families head towards amusement parks, or board cruise ships for vacationing, my family prefers going on log house getaways that are exotic from their own way.

The idea of this innovative form of excursions sparked off at the time of our honeymoon. My fiancé and me were totally drained after the 60-hour work weeks, wedding programs and long commutes. One evening as we were sitting together I said to my fiancé, “my perfect idea of a honeymoon in the present situation is of heading off to a log cabin that is getawayd in the middle of nowhere and not need to do anything.” And it happened just as I thought; we went for holidaying at a log cabin.

My fiancé rented a little log cabin placed in the midst of scenic vistas. The cabin was located at a distance of a three hours drive from our house near Los Angeles. We spent plenty of quality and mushy time with each other in the log cabin. The cabin was pet-friendly which made it achievable for us to take our pet hound dog, Waldo along with us.

Fast forward to now. I’m now a stay-at-house working mom with three kids, ages 3, 6 and 7. And while I’ve traded in my daily commute to raise the kids, it’s still a life of college, piano and scouting activities, volunteer work and never ending battles to get the homework done. One thing we haven’t changed though are our log cabin vacations.

It is just the cabin size that changed to accommodate our family. We at all times rent log houses on weekends in the destinations near to our home. These log cabins are encircled by the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Mornings are commonly my favorite time of day when we’re on our log cabin holiday vacation. I sneak out of bed about the time the sun comes up, grab a hot, steaming cup of cofrate and a blanket and head out to the porch to watch the very first rays of light burst through the trees and hit the ground. There’s something so quite peaceful about that time and I’m usually joined within minutes by my husband and our stunning old Waldo as we sit on the porch chairs or the swing that are inevitably on every porch.

Sometime during the afternoon our family frequently heads out for a leisurely hike through the quiet forests, enjoying the peaceful day. We’ve all learned to use all our senses to experience the time together. We spend our evenings in front of the firespot playing “Old Maid” card games, Scrabble or roasting marshmallows and sipping hot chocolate. Often the log cabins have a hot tub and we’ll brave the chilly night air to sit and drink a glass of wine, gazing at the stars and listening to the far off sounds of owls or coyotes.

Me and my family frequently go for log cabin vacations as often as possible. Somehow we just can’t resist their charm.
