Kefalonia Holidays Guide

A very popular place for going on holiday in Europe is one of the Greek islands. The Greek island of Kefalonia is one the islands that you probably haven’t heard of. I am not sure why it isn’t as popular as other islands but this gives you an advantage. You can make the most of it before Kefalonia holidays become the too popular.

Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian islands of Greece. It isn’t very large and has a population of less than 50,000 people. After the tourist industry, animal breeding and growing olives are the biggest employers.

The island is different from other islands in that it is quieter. Kefalonia holidays are not about partying, they are about relaxing. Some of the great Greek beaches are here and it is home to the famous Myrtos beach. Many postcards from the other islands have this beach as their main feature even though it is not from there.

Kefalonia holidays aren’t only about beaches; you have a lot of culture too. This shouldn’t be surprising given the history of Greece. Some of the old ruins even date back to the 1st century B.C. and lots of ancient burial grounds. If you want to learn about culture then this is a great place to do it.

You will also love Kefalonia is you like nature. There are a number of mountains that you can walk up and you will be able to explore the beautiful caves. You will be able to explore the numerous caves that are around the island. You may even see the elusive loggerhead turtle… but only if you are very lucky.

The accommodation is as you would expect for Greece. The appartment tend to be clean and basic. What makes a lot of these places great is that they are run by families so they are very eager to please you.

I have only given you an introduction about what Kefalonia holidays are like but I do hope you have more of an idea now. If you do decide to go I hope you have a wonderful time.
