Expect To Get Less Rewards With Your United Airlines Credit Card
United Airlines became the first major airline to stop offering free meals to its passengers flying to Europe. Of course this comes to the people that are flying in coach and not in first class. The people who fly first class still pay a large premium to fly and only 5% of the people on board even fly first class. With such a low amount of people flying first class the airlines can still absorb that cost in the price of a plane ticket.
Many of United Airlines trips leave out of Dulles International Airport in the greater Washington D.C area. United Airlines has said that it will still offer food but it will now come at a price to its passengers. United Airlines has not said how much it will cost but expect it to be around the $5 range for a meal so the flight attendants do not have to deal with a lot of money or airline mile credit cards.
United Airlines is doing this in response to the high cost of jet fuel. Estimates right now are that jet fuel has rose some 50% in the last year which is eating away in the revenue airlines can earn. United Airlines has already lost some $3.32 billion dollars of revenue and let go of 7,000 employees and is no longer flying 100 airplanes. All of this has happened within the last year.
What I do not like is how the airlines still play the fare wars instead of just saying this is what you get for your flight. Every time you go and look for flights on the internet the airlines now how much the others are charging and the average person looking for a flight is very price sensitive. They always go with the lowest cost flight. What the airlines do not tell you before you book your flight is that there are going to be all of these extra fees such as checking your luggage or now in board flights. The airlines should just start saying this is what you get with your flight for this price and that’s it. Nobody likes getting nickeled and dimed. If you do own a United Airlines credit card you will probably start seeing some changes with that too. If they are willing to get rid of free meals with an international flight you know something else is bound to change. I would suggest finding the best airline miles credit card you can which is backed by a large bank. This way you will not get stuck with one airline telling you what to do.
