European Rail Holiday
Want to travel to Europe? If so, you’re not alone. Europe’s long reign as one the most popular tourist destinations is not surprising, given the wealth of things to do and see, regardless of the length of stay. An ideal way to explore Europe’s various locales is by rail. Rail travel in America has dwindled during the past half-century, but it’s alive and well and better than ever in Europe! The last 20 years have seen the development of a network of high speed ‘bullet’ trains throughout Europe. You may elect to travel on some of these or a more traditional, leisurely train, passing through many historic and beautiful train stations.
The railway travel will require you to have a railway pass. Getting a rail pass will be an easy thing to do in terms of availability and economically. The cost difference between air and rail travel is huge and one can save enough money which can be spent at other places. Railways will enable you to relax in comfort and enjoy the natural beauty of Europe. The best way to get a rail pass is to contact a railway booking agent or a travel agent. You must provide him your trip details, places to visit, duration of your trip and your budget as well. Depending upon your budget, he can work out a best travel package for you.
Venice is another must see location when you travel Europe by rail. Venice has been touted as the number five spot for tourists all over the world. This is no surprise considering the overall appeal of the city and its historical richness. Be sure to visit five of the fabulous cafés that line most of the streets.
Think of gondolas navigating narrow canals, think of pigeons on the Piazza San Marco encircled by cafés, think of Katharine Hepburn in ‘Summertime’, and you’re thinking of Venice. Romantic Venice has changed little in the last 600 years. The modern era has not intruded. There are still no cars and the air is clear (albeit stinky in summer near the canals). It’s a pleasant city to explore on foot.
Finally you will need to stop in at Munich when you travel Europe by rail. As a city, Munich provides something for everyone. The night is always alive in Munich with nightclubs and jazz centers as well as great theater and film houses. Do not leave until you have visited a quantity of the fine restaurants in the area as well. You won’t regret it for sure.
Travelling across the European cities by railways can really make you trip a happening event. Just make sure that you book your tickets in advance, so that you do not have to regret the decision of not going to Europe.
