Do Not Get The Northwest Airline WorldPerks Credit Card
In an article written today by the Detroit News they said that Northwest Airlines is going to be restructuring the way they handle their NWA WorldPerks Credit Card. What is causing this is all of the troubles going in in the airline industry. With the cost of fuel going up the airlines have no where to go but to start cutting costs and dropping certain routes. They can’t make the airplanes more fuel efficient than they already are. It just cannot be done.
Along with the restructuring of the WorldPerks Credit Card came a demand from the executives of NWA to ask 2,500 of their 31,000 employees to take a buyout. They are going to take volunteers at first. The other reason behind the cuts is that the average American traveler is not heading to the friendly skies as much as normal. With job losses wide spread across the country right now and homes in foreclosure not to mention the cost of rising fuel prices its no wonder nobody is traveling.
To make up for this loss every major airline is having to raise fees and cut costs. You can’t blame them for doing it because we need airplanes. How else are you going to be able to get across the country in less than 5 hours. It would take almost 3 days to do it by car. The only other way is to make an extensive rail road system like Europe’s speed trains. This will be great if it happens but nothing is in the plans right now.
Some of the new fees that Northwest is going to be implementing will be a $15 charge to check the first bag on domestic flights each way, $25 for the second bag, and $100 for three bags. This can get pretty expensive for any traveling family.
Going back to the Northwest Airlines WorldPerks Credit Card. What NWA is going to do now is when you feel like cashing in your frequent flyer miles you will be charged $25 for a domestic flight and $100 for a international flight. If you have to change your travel plans the fee to do so is going up from $100 to $150. I do not know what the people at NWA are thinking. Now you are going to charge people to use their airline miles credit card. That’s a joke. What’s even funnier is that they are going to make it a fee to use the airline miles you have earned. What would have been smarter is if they slowly introduced a policy that said you have to use more air miles for a flight instead of getting charged. Nobody likes hearing the word fee. This is a dumb move on Northwest Airlines. Now it doesn’t make sense for anybody to own a Northwest Airlines WorldPerks Credit Card because you are going to get charged $25-$100 to use your freebies. Sounds like a horrible deal to me.
What you are going to need to do now is use up your Northwest Airlines WorldPerks Credit Card and get rid of it. Apply for a new air miles credit card through a bank. The bank is not going to charge you any money to use the air miles because they are not the airline. They get discounted flights from the airlines and transfer over your airline miles to pay for the ticket. If you travel a lot you will still need to have an airline miles credit card. It still makes sense but you want to work with a bank now. What you need to do now is go out and apply for the best airline miles credit card with a bank so you do not have to worry about one airline charging excessive fees when you get to use all of the airlines.
