Capture The Best Of The Isle Of Wight With Red Funnel
Have you ever thought you were a bit special with a camera? An aspiring David Bailey perhaps? Here is your chance to win some fantastic prizes and show off your camera skills by capturing some of the best sights in the Isle of Wight. The‘Your Isle of Wight’ video and photography competition is looking for some of your best shots of this beautiful destination, and will be running from August to December.
With so many picturesque sights in the Isle of Wight, your biggest problem will be filling up the memory on your camera too soon. If you’re struggling for inspiration, check out this list of some of the top attractions that the Isle of Wight has to offer:
Isle of Wight Steam Railway
A great attraction for the whole family that takes in some fantastic sights along the way. You go pass through Havenstreet and Ashley on this classic train from Wooton to Smallbrook Junction. You could even have a go at camping or caravanning on the nearby site for a real British holiday experience!
Osborne House East Cowes
It is believed that Queen Victoria and Prince Albert frequented this stunning English Heritage-maintained building. Make a visit to the Swiss play cottage and Victorian walled garden for some great photo opportunities, as well as excellent tours.
Compton Bay Beach
Compton Bay is truly one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK.With a gorgeous coastline and sandy beaches surrounded by towering cliff bays, this beach is a stunning sight. The beach is a great bathing spot and never gets too crowded, making it perfect for those lazy summer days.
Carisbrooke Castle
This is one of the must-visit sights on the island. Once prison to King Charles, this royal castle was also once the residence to Princess Beatrice, daughter of Queen Victoria. Take one of the fascinating tours where you can learn more about its history and witness the infamous donkeys working the well in the Medieval Wellhouse.
Ventnor Botanic Gardens
This is a fantastic shooting spot with beautiful floral displays and even exotic plants from around the world. The charming Steephill Cove is nearby as well and is another real beauty spot. The best part is, entrance is free!
The Model Village, Godshill
Model villages always make great photo opportunities, and the one located in Godill is fantastic.Set in one of the most picturesque villages on the Island, it is the perfect place to unwind and relax with a coffee and watch the world go by. If you feel a bit more adventurous, you can also try your hand at some leaf picking in the tea gardens nearby.
There are four categories for the photo competition; lifestyle, nature, constructed and juniors. Monthly winners in each category will win return travel to the Isle of Wight for a car and four passengers, and in December 2010 the overall winners will be announced in the final prize draw and can look forward to receiving 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes of London Camera Exchange vouchers worth £700, £200 and £100 respectively. There is a junior and adult category for the competition where entrants must submit a two to five minute video about anything on the island, from their favourite restaurants to a special spot. There is a fantastic £1,000 London Camera Exchange voucher on offer for the overall winner, while category winners will receive a £250 Red Funnel Travel Card.
You will need to make it down to the Isle of Wight to take the pictures though, and Red Funnel can get you there faster than you can say snap!Vehicles depart from the Southampton docks, which are both in reach of the M3 and M27.
